Your base in Ruhpolding

Plenty to discover.
Nothing you have to do.

Salzburg today. Chiemsee tomorrow. Or simply stay in Ruhpolding. Between city, lake and mountains, make your break your own — then come home to your Townhouse in the evening.

Your day. Your direction.

Out of the everyday.
Into something lovely.

01 / City & culture

Salzburg

Little lanes, grand cafés and a spot of culture: spend a day in Salzburg just as you please. Between discoveries, the Townhouse in Ruhpolding is your relaxed, independent base.

A little tip from us for Salzburg
Explore Salzburg ↗

Coffee at Café Bazar or lunch at Hotel Sacher: our preferred way to give a day in Salzburg a rather delicious pause.

02 / By the water

Chiemsee

A day by the lake, a pause on the shore and nothing much between you and the view. Lake Chiemsee is a lovely addition to your Chiemgau break.

A little tip from us for Chiemsee
Chiemsee & explore the surrounding area ↗

Pack your binoculars and meet the local birdlife — the designated observation points at the Achen Delta are a good place to start. For a special dinner, look towards Prien, Übersee or Grassau: perhaps Wachter Foodbar, June or es:senz. Please check current awards and reservations directly.

Königssee

Water and mountains on rather impressive terms. Discover Königssee near Schönau, choosing your plans to suit the weather and season.

Plan your day at Königssee ↗

Take the boat to Salet and walk to Obersee in sturdy footwear. Follow the lakeside path to Fischunkelalm — our tip for a hearty Bavarian snack with an exceptional mountain backdrop, when the hut is open. Parts of the path are narrow and exposed, so sure-footedness is essential. Check the seasonal boat service to Salet and the last return sailing. South of Obersee, a striking corner of the national park awaits.

04 / Out exploring

Berchtesgaden

Breathe in the mountain air, wander through town or explore a little further. Berchtesgaden brings a fresh perspective to your days in the Chiemgau.

A little tip from us for Berchtesgaden
Explore Berchtesgaden ↗

Head underground at the salt mine or get to know the Alps at the Haus der Berge national park centre: two distinctive ways into the region. Dokumentation Obersalzberg is a place of education and remembrance addressing the history of National Socialism. For sweeping mountain views, we recommend the Rossfeld Panorama Road, which has a toll.

Salt. Timber. Ingenuity.

Following the trail
of white gold.

Salt shaped our region for centuries. From 1619, a pioneering feat of engineering carried brine from Reichenhall via Inzell and Siegsdorf to Traunstein: a pipeline of wooden pipes bringing salt water to the saltworks.

Ruhpolding’s part in the story was timber. Firewood from its forests was floated down the Weiße Traun for salt production in Traunstein. Pipelines to Rosenheim and from Berchtesgaden followed later.

Our tip: combine Traunstein’s saltworks heritage with a visit to Ruhpolding’s Holzknechtmuseum. Salt, forests and the people who worked them: one connected story.
